Welcome to the 2024-25 school year! It is a great pleasure to see all of our returning students. Staff have been hard at work preparing for your child’s arrival. We have faced some unique challenges at the beginning of the school year including hail damage to some of our facilities and some construction issues, but we are ready. I hope that you and your families have enjoyed a wonderful and relaxing summer. I am very excited and privileged to be serving as your Superintendent and look forward to meeting each one of you.
The beginning of school is typically a wonderful time for those of us involved in education because it allows us to develop new goals, build new relationships and embark upon new challenges. Our overarching goal is “To provide a quality education in a safe environment to prepare students for life after graduation. Each Student, every day.” Our GCSD theme this year is: “Going 2120” – One degree is all it takes to go from just hot water to steam that can power a locomotive. We will be looking to take our teaching and job performance to the next level no matter our role. We will be looking to take our students to the next level academically, emotionally, socially, and in terms of their responsibility; One more degree.
Let me share with you my vision Grand County school District is the most desired school district to come to work and go to school at. We have a positive, rich culture, where students excel academically, emotionally and socially, and our staff feel valued, supported and that they are making a difference. When you walk up to one of our facilities, it is neat, clean and well kept. The facilities are well-maintained, and signage is placed so you know where to go. When you walk into the school, you get a sense of the positive atmosphere, you are greeted, and folks go out of their way to make you feel welcome and assist you. You’re not passed along, you are treated not as an interruption, but a valuable partner. As you walk the halls of our schools, students are engaged in class, not on their phones or technology. Students are not wandering around but have places to go. The library is the heart of the school. Every child has a self-selected reading in a journal for writing in. In the classroom students are engaged and teachers are teaching bell to bell. Our students are graduating ready for college, career or military, and graduating with career skills so they can be productive. We are providing a quality education and a safe environment preparing students for life after school. Classrooms are well disciplined and students are well mannered and respectful. You get a sense that everyone in the building is a part of the team, and that staff are included and supported. You get the sense that leadership is about serving, leading, and Customer Service. Our parents feel like their kids are being well educated and are safe in our part of the process and a partner in their child’s education. Our schools are the center of the community and we have community members attending our events, even though they may not have students in our school because it’s the place to be. We are striving to provide the best salary and benefits for all of our staff. Our extracurricular activities and clubs are a vibrant and valuable part of our schools.
