In light of recent events in Florida I know that there is a lot of concern over the safety of our students. This is something that we take very seriously and are constantly reviewing to make sure that we as a district are doing everything we can. I can’t tell you everything we do as we do not want our procedures to be public information that just anyone has access to. What I can tell you is below:
We meet monthly with members of local law enforcement and emergency services to review our emergency plans and discuss concerns and solutions related to those plans. Our last meeting was the day after the shooting in Florida.
All campuses practice regular emergency drills related to possible disasters or threats.
The Moab City Police Department has stationed a police officer at the HS campus and he works with all campuses.
Since September we have been upgrading, repairing and adding cameras to cover all exterior entrances to the campuses. In addition, all campuses exteriors are secured during the day and entrance to the building is funneled through the front offices.
We have created a team of individuals within the school and community who work to develop relationships with our most At-Risk students and we meet on a monthly basis to collaborate on resources for them.
Having students in the school district I personally understand your concerns as parents. Please know that we are doing everything we can to protect your students as they are our own.
If you have suggestions or ideas on additional things we can do, I would love to meet with you in person.
