Schedule: Part time or Full time. Hours begin at 6:30 a.m. for preparing breakfast for elementary school students.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
Under the supervision of the Child Nutrition Program Director, the Child Nutrition Lunch Aide works with the Kitchen Manager and other Child Nutrition staff to receive food and supplies, prepare food, transport meals as needed, operate dish machine and pot washing sinks, assist with inventory and storage, serve meals in accordance with standardized recipes and regulations, and provide exceptional customer service to students, staff, and visitors.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Understands and is able to communicate the philosophy of the GCSD Child Nutrition Program and on a daily basis helps to deliver information to the school population about the food, the sources of the food, the recipes and the overall program.
• Participates in the preparation of ingredients according to the planned menu and prescribed recipes.
• Participates in maintaining production flow by operating dish machine, pot washing area, and maintaining organized storage of all pans, utensils, storage containers and other small wares and equipment used in the production facility.
• Participates in the proper receiving, storage and inventorying of all foodstuffs, paper, chemicals and supplies according to the GCSD Child Nutrition Program Standard Operating Procedures.
• Ensures the freshness of all prepared items by implementing proper rotation of food items prepared, properly wrapping and labeling prepared food items, and preparing only the amounts of food items as assigned.
• Participates and maintains the cleanliness and sanitation of all kitchen, cafeteria and storage areas under the auspices of GCSD Child Nutrition Program including, but not limited to, walk-ins, refrigeration, freezers, dry storage and site office areas.
• Records and maintains temperature logs for equipment, food production and food transport, as outlined in the GCSD Child Nutrition Program Standard Operating Procedures and in compliance with National School Lunch Program and local health codes.
• Uses and maintains institutional food service equipment such as slicers, ovens, mixers, and commercial dishwashers.
• Participates in the set-up and service of meals, including transportation to other locations when necessary, in accordance with prescribed menus and recipes to assure orderly and efficient meal service.
• Utilizes Point of Sale, Student Information, Menu Planning, and Ordering software when appropriate to ensure accurate service, data collection, and inventory management.
• Handles cash, payments, and donations correctly, including entering data into the Point of Sale System, balancing the cash drawer, and making a deposit.
• Fosters district commitment to excellence and equity by ensuring that employees and students are valued, respected and provided a positive work/learning environment.
• Establishes positive relations with internal and external customers, including students, staff, school administration, parents, and community members.
• Reads and responds to emails and other forms of communication from the GCSD Child Nutrition Program and applicable building or district staff, including attending meetings/functions when necessary.
• Meets the professional expectations of attendance, suitable attire and decorum, and other district policies pertaining to continued employment with the GCSD Child Nutrition Program.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Predictable and reliable attendance.

NOTE: During times of state or district emergency, all employees may be required to perform additional duties that are not required on a normal basis in support of educational and operational priorities. e.g. Performs general cleaning and sanitizing of work areas, provides remote assistance to students and staff, and any other reasonable duty as needed.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

• Must be fingerprinted and clear a criminal background check.
• Must demonstrate ability to read and write English at a level required for successful job performance.
• Must demonstrate ability to perform basic mathematics at a level required for successful job performance.
• Must obtain ServSafe Certificate or SEUHD Food Handler’s Permit by completion of probationary period.
• Ability to communicate effectively in order to follow oral/written directions and specific rules, regulations and processes and apply them to a variety of situations.
• Requires skill in problem solving and prioritizing tasks. Must complete tasks in a timely, efficient manner.
• Offer may be contingent upon passing post-offer physical.

NOTE: The Administration reserves the right to require specific training for this position. However, depending upon the type and quality of prior work experience and availability of formal training programs, some exchanges can be made between training and experience.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS---Not limited to the following:
• Job involves frequent physical effort and stamina to stand and walk; use hands and reach with hands and arms; and involves talking, hearing, tasting and smelling (over 2/3 of the time).
• Occasionally required to perform duties requiring bending, lifting, crouching, balancing, stooping, kneeling, etc. (up to 1/3 of the time).
• Requires the ability to lift a minimum of ten (10) pounds (over 2/3 of the time).
• Requires ability to lift up to 50 pounds and to assist with moving heavy loads (up to 2/3 of the time).
• The specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision (20 inches or less), distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more), ability to identify and distinguish colors, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
• Physical ability to perform the essential functions listed above with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Possess the physical, mental, and emotional stability to work under stressful conditions, including but not limited to: deadlines, contract requirements, inspection requirements, and interaction with critical personnel.

SPECIFICALLY FOR THIS POSITION:

• Manual dexterity to manipulate small objects and handle equipment safely.
• May require ability to drive a car, pickup truck or other vehicle.
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to non-weather wet or humid conditions (up to 2/3 of the time).
• The employee must occasionally work near moving mechanical parts; work in high, precarious places; be exposed to fumes or airborne particles; be exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals; be able to maintain safe working conditions and aware of the risk of electrical shock.
• The employee is occasionally exposed to non-weather related extreme cold and heat (less than 1/3 of the time). The employee is exposed to very loud noise levels in this position.
• The employee is required to maintain a safe working environment for themselves and others including, but not limited to:
• Wearing sturdy non-slip, closed-toed shoes; hair restraints; face coverings (when required); appropriate gloves for each task; aprons as needed; and ID badges.
