Special Education

The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) is a law that makes free appropriate public education available to eligible children with disabilities throughout the nation and ensures special education and related services to those children.
The purpose of Special Education is "to ensure that all children with disabilities have available to them a free appropriate public education that emphasizes special education and related services designed to meet their unique needs and prepare them for further education, employment, and independent living" (IDEA 2004).

Utah Code Section 53A-1a-704(10) requires that parents of students with an IEP who are enrolled in public schools be notified of the availabilty of a scholarship to attend a private school through the Carson Smith Scholarship Program.
