GrandAM Advisory Committee

Rick Donham

 

As a member of GrandAM's Advisory Committee, Rick provides expert program guidance and program policy advice as well as mentor training input. Rick is a Licensed Professional Counselor and holds the position of Grand County Team Supervisor. He earned a B.S. in Social Science from Indiana State University and a Master's Degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia in Counseling Psychology/Alcoholism Rehabilitation. Mr. Donham has more than thirty years experience in community mental health in Missouri, Colorado and Utah. He provides supervision for mental health and substance abuse treatment services as well as prevention programs. He has a special interest in multi-systemic approaches to prevention and treatment and supervised other professionals before joining Four Corners in 1999.

Jim Lewis

 

Jim is a Physical Therapist in Moab and is also on the County Council. Jim went to Weber State College for his pre physical therapy schooling, earning an associates degree, then Northwestern University for a Bachelors in Physical Therapy, and then earned a Masters from the Utah State Board of Regents in Orthopedic Manual therapy. Jim enjoys road and mountain biking, running, and spending time with his family. Professionally he tries to keep current on rehabilitation topics especially in the area of orthopedic injuries. First interested in advising the Grand Area Mentoring Program because of his kids, Jim knows how much more they can learn and gain from good adult examples in their lives.

Taryn Kay

 

Taryn went to school in elementary ed. at BYU and graduated in 1991. She received a master's degree in secondary ed. from Utah State in 1997, and an administrative endorsement from Utah State in 1999. Taryn's professional interests include learning about all things pertaining to students with disabilities; in particular she is interested in working with students with behavioral difficulties. Taryn's person interests include being a mom, the New York Yankees, reading, traveling, and taiko drumming. Taryn believes that any student having an adult mentor will have a very important asset that correlates directly with success and happiness later.

Margaret Hopkin

 

Margaret attended the Utah State University and studied three years as photography major, then switched to Education.  Her B.A. is a composite in Early Childhood Development and K-8 Education, and she received a Master's Degree from the University of Utah in Educational Administration. Margaret is interested in working with students and adults in an attempt to shape the system to benefit the individual, and particularly in literacy instruction, the arts and emergency management. When not at work, Margaret’s personal interests are Taiko drumming, reading, watching films, listening to music and going on adventures in the desert with her friends and her dogs. Margaret notes that research has shown the ONE factor that consistently supports the healthy development of youth into productive adulthood is having an adult who cares. She believes that GrandAM will serve as a great safety net for local kids by providing caring adult role models outside the family setting.

Mary McGann

 

Mary McGann is a Special Education teacher at Red Rock Elementary School. Mary is an active member of the Moab community, working with several volunteer organizations and playing an active role on GrandAM's Advisory Committee, particularly in helping develop a dynamic rectruiting strategy and community outreach.

Jeri Hamilton

 

Jeri K. Hamilton is currently the Moab Branch Manager for Eastern Utah Community Credit Union. Jeri enjoys participating in the many community events. She does this by participating in or chairing events that Eastern Utah Community Credit Union is involved in. She also sits on the local United Way board and is involved in numerous other associations and clubs.

Jeri enjoys the outdoors, reading and most of all riding her motorcycle.

Melinda Snow

 

Melinda Snow has worked in education for 20 years.  She received her Bachelor of Science and Master of Education degrees, as well as certification in Supervision and Administration, from the University of Utah.  She began her career in Murray School District working with at-risk youth and their teachers, and later an administrator of a K-6 school for several years before moving to Moab.  This is Melinda's third year as the administrator for the Grand County Middle School.  Her personal and professional goals include helping students to develop a personal sense of success and security no matter the odds by understanding hope, optimism, and determination. Melinda believes that adult mentors working with Grand County students will provide evidence that we are working as a community to support the children both academically and emotionally.  In her limited spare time she loves to backpack, spend time with friends and family on the river, and travel to Tennessee to be with her daughter and grand-children.
