Capacity and Facilities

Grand County's Pre-school program has reached its capacity at the Sundwall Center. The District is examining the possibility of, in the future, including Pre-school space in the elementary school. Until then, the Sundwall Center is an adequate facility for our existing program. There are problems with the facility, as with the other older buildings.  The Sundwall Center lacks a handicapped restroom that fully meets the needs of the children. The facility has inadequate parking and requires improvements for handicapped access.  Office and storage space is inadequate.

Safety

The Sundwall Center was built before current building codes were in place.  Its walls are 'unreinforced.'  This means that the walls are not constructed to withstand settling, pressures of severe storms or movement from earthquakes.  The roof of the building is 'capped' which means it is built on rows of high glass windows installed along the tops of the walls.  This presents the same safety concerns with settling, severe storm pressures or earthquake.
