JOB DESCRIPTION: Para-Educator

JOB SUMMARY*
Assist the teacher in the area assigned to maintain and promote an environment in which students may learn effectively.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS*
  1. Provide instructional support assistance to students and student groups.
  2. Operate various types of office equipment such as typewriter, copy machines, personal computers, etc.
  3. Participate in the development and maintenance of systems for area of assignment.
  4. Guides students in working and interacting harmoniously with other students.
  5. Supervises students in all areas of the school.
  6. Conform to District policy regarding attendance and absences. Employee attendance must be adequate to perform the above listed essential job functions.
  7. Ability to handle confidential information with complete security.

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS*

  1. Helps maintain individual records for each student.
  2. Other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Necessary to Performance of Essential Functions:

  1. Must be a graduate of an accredited institution at an acceptable academic level to be determined by the Grand County School District.
  2. Ability to communicate effectively and help others.

Desirable Knowledge & Abilities:

  1. Previous experience in a public school setting.
  2. Ability to operate office machines, perform routine record keeping functions, and establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, teachers, students and the public.
  3. Hold and maintain a Utah driver's license.
  4. Ability to work independently at routine tasks.
  5. Ability to learn special needs of particular individuals.
  6. Ability to maintain discipline among students.
  7. Ability to conduct learning activities with small groups of students.
  8. Ability to learn and interpret rules, regulations, laws and instructions.
  9. Knowledge of and ability to use English correctly and appropriately.
  10. Ability to meet and interact with teachers and student with tact, courtesy, and discretion.
  11. Ability to learn emergency procedures for working with mentally and physically disabled persons.
  12. Ability to escort and assist children as necessary.
  13. Ability to adjust to irregular schedules and unexpected changes in routine.
