JOB DESCRIPTION: Library Media
JOB SUMMARY: Under the direction of the school principal the library media teacher is responsible for 1) teaching the Library Media Core Curricula, 2) supervising other library media personnel, 3) consulting with other teachers on curriculum, 4) integrating information skills into the classroom curriculum, 5) managing the daily operation of the library media center.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS*
1. Teach Library Media Core Curricula as adopted by the Utah State Board of Education and the Desired Results for Student Learning as adopted by Grand County High School.
2. Develop lesson plans for group instruction. Teach library information skills as outlined in the State Core, on an individual basis as student needs become evident.
3. Supervise library assistant who works from 2:30 to 5:30 doing clerical tasks, circulating materials, supervising students.
4. Supervise student library aides during school hours. Student aides charge materials, shelve materials, and assist with numerous other library tasks.
5. Consult with teachers about materials available and appropriate for classroom curricular needs.
6. Present ideas and model teaching for the integration of media and computer programs into lesson plans.
7. Keep teachers informed of new acquisitions and Internet sources.
8. Solicit suggestions for purchases of materials and equipment.
9. Prioritize, budget for, order, catalog new materials and equipment for use of teachers and staff.
10. Weed and inventory the collection as an ongoing process.
11. Establish policies for library operation including circulation of materials and equipment, student use of facility, teacher use of materials and equipment and promotional programs to encourage use of the library.
12. Continue professional growth through membership in Utah Educational Media Association and attendance at regional and/or state annual conferences.
13. Demonstrate professional ethics as outlined by the Utah Professional Practices Advisory Commission and the American Library Association.
14. Conform to district policies, including attendance, absences and evaluation.
15. Be familiar with library automation system for search, circulation and cataloging of materials, and equipment.

1. Create and maintain an attractive library media environment.
2. Promote reading, research and writing by supporting extra curricular clubs and activities.
3. Publish a quarterly library newsletter for staff.
4. Operate Athena automated library system.

Required Education and Training for Essential Functions:
1. Valid Utah teaching license and subject specific endorsement, or alternative program leading to license.
