JOB DESCRIPTION - ADA Coordinator
JOB SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Superintendent, the ADA Coordinator is responsible for the coordination and implementation of the Americans with Disabilities Act and will ensure that all district programs, services and activities are accessible to and usable by staff, patrons, students and community with disabilities without discrimination.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Knows complies with and communicates the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act to district staff, patrons, students and the public as necessary or requested.
2. Ensures that appropriate public notice and access are provided for all district programs, services and activities, including media and bulletin postings; arranges for reasonable accommodations and/or alternative formats upon request; reviews and makes recommendations regarding budgetary requirements for program access and facility barriers removal.
3. Reviews and makes disability determinations, consulting as needed with the district's legal counsel, ADA Coordinating Committee and the state Division of Risk Management.
4. Responds to staff and public inquiries, providing a neutral base for access to information about the Americans with Disabilities Act and the responsibilities of the schools to provide programs, services and activities without discrimination to individuals with disabilities.
5. Represents the district on ADA issues as necessary with the media, the courts and state and federal entities.
6. Reviews district contracts to verify vendor/contractor compliance with and understanding of the Americans with Disabilities Act and other civil rights laws which pertain to state and local governments; consults with legal counsel; communicates as necessary with vendors/contractors.
7. Facilitates and coordinates the resolution process for grievances/complaints; provides both the complainant and the district with information regarding the complaint process; researches and reports in writing findings of fact; outlines appeal process both local and federal; consults with the district ADA Coordinating Committee as appropriate.
8. Facilitates the resolutions of reasonable accommodation requests, consulting with the district's insurer and the district ADA Coordinating Committee prior to the denial of a request.
9. Facilitates, coordinates, convenes and chairs the district ADA Coordinating Committee which may include, but not be limited to the following district personnel: the chief budget officer, the human resource manager, the special education director, the facilities manager, the risk manager and legal counsel as necessary.
10. Facilitates group meetings, training sessions and other activities to increase the understanding of the ADA.
11. Facilitates the development and implementation of district emergency evacuation plans giving special attention to the needs of individuals with disabilities.
12. Keeps on file for public inspection and comment the district's ADA transition Plan and causes it to be reviewed and up-dated annually.
13. Retains for at least three years the district's ADA Self-evaluation Plan, responding as necessary to needs for revision and to public comment.
14. Maintains all staff medical records in compliance with ADA Title I, Technical Assistance Manual, Section VI instructions.
15. Conforms to district employee standards and policies.
MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Maintains Utah driver's license to facilitate necessary contacts.
2. Reviews district audio/visual and printed materials for sensitive and correct references to individuals with disabilities.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Necessary to Performance of Essential Functions:

3. Knowledge of group process, leadership skills.
4. Ability to understand and interpret complex legal documents.
5. Ability to communicate and negotiate effectively with people.
6. Skill in the design and delivery of training.
7. Ability to resolve problems.
Required Education and Training for Essential Functions:
1. Valid Utah teaching license and subject specific endorsement, or alternative program leading to license.
