Logik Services LLC, & Technology
|
Our advisor and evaluator, Logik Services, LLC, is a small company out of Bend, Oregon. Logik Services includes the curricula, administrative, and educational expertise of Larry Fenili and Karen Williams. Together Larry and Karen have over 50 years of experience in the education field. Both Karen and Larry are master teachers as well as gifted grant writers. Every few months they visit Moab to help with training, program development, and GrandAM's federal evaluations. We at GrandAM are always eager to have them; and usually ready to catch a breather after their whirlwind tours of training, meetings, consultation, and excitement. |
Colleen, Jeri, and Wendy. |
Larry and Karen's most recent visit in early January found GrandAM prepared with 13 trainees, and we kicked off training with two Marco Polo sessions. Marco Polo is an integrated curriculum website for students and educators. Familiarizing our mentors with this site gives each important skills that will allow them to keep up with their mentees while cruising around its broad network of partner sites. That's right, keep up! It's funny, but often students know more about computer use than mentors. Younger generations are naturally exposed to basic computer function and learn new applications and platforms easily, while adults can sometimes struggle to adopt these new techy devices and systems.

Wendy and Carolyn learn about Marco Polo. |
This is why we at GrandAM believe it essential to provide technology education to our mentors. With only a few hours of basic instruction on the Marco Polo site, we can teach mentors how to effeiciently navigate the amazing depth of knowledge available to its search engines. Fields of inquiry build outward from Marco Polo, and our mentors and students can research a myriad of topics with a few key strokes.
|
Technology training also gives our mentors a basic understanding of how to use the Marco Polo site and entire Internet properly. With dubious information and peronalities just a click away, we make sure our mentors are prepared to direct learning and inquiry in only the right directions. |
Sometimes you just have to look at it mean. |
