Schools >> District Office |
Background:Unfortunately, the Grand County School District Office has a reputation statewide as being one of the most inadequate central office facilities for a school district in the state of Utah. Local District employees, however, understand this is true because in putting our students as a top priority, District building funds go first into maintaining school facilities rather than support offices. This leaves little or no funds for other facilities. Our local District Office facility has served us well over time, but having been built in 1955, it is showing its wear. The list of remodeling needs is so great, the School Board agrees with the recommendations in the facility assessment – we would be wise to construct a new facility. Putting money toward the many remodeling issues mentioned below would still leave us with an inadequate facility for our District Office. |

Remodeling Needs:The District Office is in need of a comprehensive electrical upgrade. The HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) system is inadequate and needs retrofitting. Restrooms require remodeling to meet ADA codes. The facility lacks a fire alarm system, needed to bring the building up to public safety standards. The facility also lacks office, conference, storage and public meeting space. The front entry needs to be reconstructed to meet compliance codes. Finally, on the roof, the fascia and soffits require repair and outdoor lighting needs to be installed as a safety requirement for evening public access. Needless to say, the need for repair and remodeling to our District Office facility is substantial. Yet it continues to fall low on the list of priorities as we look at school building needs for our students. |
